ANSON DYER PRODUCTIONS

(1937-1938)

Anson Dyer Productions Ltd was one of two companies registered in June 1937 by animation producer Anson Dyer to spread the burden of debt on the company, Anglia Films, that ran his studio in Jermyn Street. He was making a series of colour cartoons featuring the character Sam Small, as narrated by Stanley Holloway and based on his popular comic monologues. The series was not bringing in enough money to keep the studio going, and they had started making advertising cartoons to remain afloat. The second company was Anglia Films (Continental) Ltd, where the "Continental" may have represented the advertising films they were making for other European countries.

These companies were attached to the studio for accounting purposes but the staff would seem to have remained employees of Anglia Films.

The companies were listed in the Kinematograph Year Book 1938 (compiled at the end of 1937) as follows:

Under the heading of British Studios:

ANGLIA FILMS (CONTINENTAL), LTD.

Eagle House, 109,Jermyn Street, S.W.1.

. . .  E. Anson-Dyer,
              P. C. Samuel.

ay.)

This replaced the previous year's entry for Anglia Films.

Anson Dyer Productions Ltd was entered under British Production Units:

 ANSON DYER PRODUCTIONS, LTD.

Eagle House, 108-111,Jermyn Street, S.W.1.

Telephone:  Whitehall 7585.

Directorate: E. Anson Dyer, P. C. Samuel.

Secretary: P. C. Samuel.

Manager: R. Roth.

The entry under Producers of Advertising, Propaganda & Sub-Standard Films, etc. remained as the pevious year's entry:

ANGLIA FILMS, LTD.

Eagle House, 108-111,Jermyn Street, S.W.1.

Telephone :  Whitehall 7585.

Directorate: E. Anson Dyer, P. C. Samuel

Productions, 1937:
Monochrome and Colour

 Advertising Cartoons in
.

This was a repeat of the entry for the previous year, with just the Directorate changed, the Secretary removed, and the Productions year updated. Whether the name was meant to have been changed to Anglia Films (Continental) is a matter for conjecture. Despite the two new companies taking over, however, it does appear that the original Anglia Films Ltd had not been dissolved.

With the new companies providing some security, Dyer sought to improve his situation.
