Percy Vigar

(1903-83)

Percy Vigar was born in Egham, Surrey on 19 April 1903, the youngest child of Police Seargent Albert Vigar and his wife Selina: he had 3 elder sisters and a brother. In 1910 the family moved to Farnham.

Sadly, His brother, Albert, 5 years older than Percy, was killed in action in the First World War.

In 1924 Percy, a commercial artist, was hired as one of the animation team on the Bonzo cartoon series produced by New Era Films during 1924-5.

After the series finished he returned to commercial art, working in advertising. He married hairdresser Doris Annie Steer on 20 Sept 1930, and they had a daughter the following year.

Percy Vigar retired in 1963 and he and Doris moved to Eastbourne, where Percy died on 26 Nov 1983. Doris moved to Wallingford, Oxfordshire, where she died in 1997.
